You are encouraged to take every opportunity to plan the details for this important event so that your birth at home is one of the most meaningful and serene experiences in your life.
At Lakeside Birth Center, couples may also choose to deliver their precious babies in our fully-licensed birth center on beautiful Lake Tapps in Sumner, Wash. The State of Washington Department of Health and the Department of Social and Health Services have each licensed Lakeside Birth Center. Prenatal care is a shared responsibility between you and your midwife. Awareness and education leads to confidence, and I would like to be part of that growth process with you. Childbirth education classes are available throughout the community and there are numerous resources to which I can direct you.
It is also important that your environment be conducive to a safe and happy birth. The birth area should be warm. You should have adequate lighting available should it be needed, but for the birth itself diffuse, subdued lighting is often best. A telephone must be available. Many people ask who should be present at your birth. This is your choice entirely. You may want close family or friends present. Your children are welcome, and I encourage instruction and education commensurate with their age and understanding so that they may benefit most from this experience. You should plan for a relaxed environment in which at least one person provides labor support.
